AGENDA ITEM AND CONTENT

ACTION POINTS

1. Introduction

Our fifth meeting of session 2005/2006 was opened at 7.30 p.m. by our Chair, BK.

A warm welcome was extended to all attendees.

2. Apologies

Ms Jean Thomson (JT) our treasurer was unable to attend the meeting.

3. Approval of Minutes and Matters Arising

MO asked for the minutes to be amended. Item 5 now reads “AC will write to the owners expressing our concern and suggesting that security staff should be employed on Friday and Saturday nights.”

The minutes were accepted as amended, nominated by AC and seconded by Mr Jim Storey.

4. NHS Lanarkshire

AC has attended “Picture of Health” consultation meetings. Closure of A&E and rationalisation of other services will lead to more reliability in planned admissions according to the Health Trust. The trust will negotiate with Forth Valley – Larbert General Hospital will open in 2010 – to take A&E patients from Cumbernauld.  The plan is that Larbert General will become our local A&E. It is planned that more paramedics will be trained, more ambulances will be available and the out of hours service at Cumbernauld Central Health Centre will be extended and will be available to deal with minor injuries.

However, there was no discussion of funding at these meetings nor were any figures produced. The difficulty in attracting A&E consultants remains. No new facilities for Cumbernauld are in the plans.

A number of meetings are coming up including “Picture of Health” consultations and various campaign and other health related groups.

5. Youth meeting

The meeting will take place on the 15th of March at 7.00 pm in Craighalbert Church hall. Competition leaflets will be circulated a few days prior to the meeting containing some questions to be answered by young people who will bring their completed forms to the meeting. There will be 2 or 3 prizes of Virgin gift vouchers for the winners. JB will check that we can provide crisps and juice in the hall.

Bobby Johnstone (Condorrat CC) is organising an event to consult with all young people who live north of the A80. We will offer to help in organising the event.

6. Reports from Committee Members

Secretary

Various communications received by the secretary were made available to the meeting                 including:

                Strathclyde Country Park Play Seminar,

Various letters copied to us by Councillor G Murray,

                Newsletter from MSP Alex Neil,

Letter from Friends of the Town Park advertising a public meeting in Cumbernauld                 Primary School on Wednesday 26th April,

Planning advice note on community engagement.

Treasurer

No expenditure to report during the past month.

DW

Watch the website for the latest information on broadband. O2 has been grated                 permission to build a mast at the Craigmarloch roundabout on appeal to the Scottish                 Executive.

SC

News feed now appears on website homepage along with more jokes, quizzes etc. DW                 suggested that older forum posts might be aged out. SC will look into the matter.

BK

Ground clearance has begun on the Mosque site. The contractor has cleared a significant             number of trees. The contractor has been asked not to block the public   right of way         through the site.

MO

The Demolition program has provided a focus for people to think about how they would                 like the Town Centre to develop. Representatives of NLC are very reluctant to consider                 any proposal to create a Town Centre as opposed to a Shopping Centre. The Town                 Centre was debated by the Scottish Parliament and the debate can be viewed via the                 Parliament website.

A recent report in the Herald predicts that the proposed M80 will not have enough                 capacity. The executive has done nothing to reduce traffic levels.

JB

CPP still exists. The police are holding Senior Citizen Roadshows – the nearest to                 Craigmarloch is in the Link Centre. A mobile police office is in Craigmarloch Tesco car                 park on Wednesdays between 1pm and 2pm. If the office is used by the community then                 other groups may be invited to provide information.

7. AOCB

AC will establish who own the wall outside the chemist at Tesco. We will then seek permission to put up a community noticeboard.

The Easter event will be held on Saturday 15th April between 10am and midday. We will discuss the event at the next meeting. The summer event will be held on Saturday 5th August.

Work has still not started on the reflective beacons in Glen Lochey. AC will progress.

Ahole in the footpath behind Glen Lednock which undermines the footpath has been reported but no remedial work has been undertaken. AC will progress.

X3 timetable is incorrect. Buses, which are timetabled to terminate at Moodiesburn, actually go to Buchanan Street.

DW queried as to why 403 is going to Craiglinn Interchange when 348 doesn't. Also 348 has flat fee of 50p/single journey whereas 403 is tiered and for example would cost £1.10 from Croy to Craigmarloch.

8. DATE OF NEXT MEETING

The next public meeting of Craigmarloch Community Council will take place on Thursday 16th March at 7.30pm at Auchinbee Nursery.
