Minutes, Thursday
18th May.
Attendees: Barney, Mike, Donna and Joan.
1)
Introduction, 8th
Meeting
2)
Apologies, Ailsa, Jean, Steven and Chris.
3)
Minute’s approval, (April) proposed Mike, seconded Jo.
4)
Community Police, PC Meldrum & PC Forsyth.
Gave report on recent crimes in the general area (not exclusively Craigmarloch) 16 crimes in total over last 3 months, including the murder at Carrickstone and 2 burglaries at Craighalbert (scaffolding and play equipment).
There had been no notification of any further trouble at Auchinbee way (Tescos)
BK raised the point about vehicles speeding in
school area when warning lights flashing – noted worst culprits seemed to be
mothers with kids in their cars! Police requested to carry out speed checks
during times of school activity; they agreed to pursue this matter. MO raised
the point regarding the new bus shelter being smashed on two consecutive
Fridays. Local resident confirmed that it appeared that the vandalism was
carried out late on the Friday nights which could coincide with the local
public house closing time. Unlike the recent damage to the shelter at Westfield
which was allegedly caused by primary schoolchildren.
BK also mentioned this year’s funday (5/8/06) to the PCs present and asked for committed support for the event. They both agreed that this would be put in their diaries.
5)Reports from committee members:
Donna on Broadband,
Very little to add to this at present,
connection still a bit hit or
Miss, and download speed still very slow.
MO said that the
Carphone Warehouse (talktalk isp) has
pledged to ‘detangle’
Some of the worst exchanges for broadband
connection and
Cumbernauld could be one of the first to
get an improved
Service.
Mike on Towncentre,
The last meeting of the T/C sub-committee
+ NLC gave rise to
cautious optimism, there seemed to be a
step change for the
better in the way that NLC were regarding
members of the
Forum sub-committee.
Jo on Crime prevention,
No
crime prevention panel meeting since last CCC meeting.
Barney on Community park,
Spoke about forthcoming public meeting on
14th June, fliers
Will be distributed in local shops,
health centres, ASDA,
Tesco and hopefully in the local
newspaper to promote the
Event.
Due to the absence of the Secretary,
Treasurer and
Webmaster there was no further reports.
6) Further discussions on the NHS
Lanarkshire’s proposal,
Apparently Michael Matheson had been
informed that if
Cumbernauld and Kilsyth were to be
aligned with the new
Hospital at Larbert, a total of 79 beds
would be required.
7) BK made an appeal to get more
assistance for the
Forthcoming funday in August.
8)Gordon Murray: Re. bus shelter, he will
raise the matter
Further with NLC. He congratulated Jo on
the excellent article
in last week’s C/News. There were further
discussions re. the
Community Park area, he re-iterated the
fact that NLC does
Not have large capital sums available for
investment in the
Park area, but they have agreed that they
will assist in applying
For grants.
9)AOCB Other competent business covered in
police report
(bus shelter).
